During the CQ WW WPX SSB contest I managed 123 QSOs running 5 watt SSB. I used my Elecraft K3/10 @ 5w and a W3DZZ trap dipole and a vertical antenna. QTH was my local radio club. You can find all the details and watch my QSO map here. Please scroll to the bottom of the page to see QSO data.

Hi Mads, I looked at your qso map, and it's very impressing. Even with SSB we can make nice qrp contacts. That's for sure. 73 Paul
ReplyDeleteVery impressive! You carry a shinning light for SSB QRP ops. You club QTH must have an impressive antenna system.

Hi Paul and André,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words! The antennas are really not that impressive. We use an old W3DZZ trap dipole for 80m, 40m and 20m and a CB vertical on the higher bands.
Since we're so close to equinox I suspected propagation to favour north/south QSOs but that didn't happen. Can someone explain why?

Wow Mads, that is very impressive just with 5W. phpQW is a nice tool, thanks for writing about it. Don't know why the north-south path was not there, did 10m open in Norway? We heard a lot of south America here on 10. 73, Bas
ReplyDeleteHi Bas. Thanks for your comment! I heard a couple of stations on 10m when I first entered the contest at 14.00 UTC but I was not able to work them.

Well Mad's very good SSB results and with 5 watts to boot. Nice to see on the map that your signal made it's way over to this side of the pond.
